Zamira Reka
‘Zamira Reka’ explores the life of Sindi’s mother, from her upbringing in communist Albania to her migration to Italy and the UK, revealing how societal and familial expectations shaped her choices. The project includes portraits, a photobook blending archival images with new work created during the artist’s return to Albania with her mother, and an interview amplifying her voice. By sharing her story firsthand, the work highlights personal and historical narratives that shed light on generational trauma and the struggles that women and mothers go through. This project encourages the audience to view mothers beyond their roles, recognising them as individuals with their own stories, identities, and independent lives.
