Zamira Reka

‘Zamira Reka’ explores the life of  Sindi’s mother, from her upbringing in communist Albania to her migration to Italy and the UK, revealing how societal and familial expectations shaped her choices. The project features three parts. The first part are portraits of Sindi’s mother taken in her mother’s childhood home in Albania. Second part features  portraits taken in Sindi’s home in London, which showcase her mother and her mother’s intimate space. The third, and final part, includes a photo book combining archival images with the work Sindi created both in Albania and London. The photo book intertwines images and text, from an inteview Sindi conducted of her mother. By sharing her story firsthand, the work highlights personal and historical narratives that shed light on generational trauma and the struggles that women and mothers go through. This project encourages the audience to view mothers beyond their roles, recognising them as individuals with their own stories, identities, and independent lives.
